Why does this article make our list? It isn't the protestors--it's their first amendment right to protest as long as they aren't destroying property or endangering public safety. It's the article itself--a "news" article from a supposedly objective paper of record describes the protestors as "the home guard of the antiwar movement". Apparently, "three dozen people were arrested in New York for blocking traffic or doorways at military recruiting centers, but these were choreographed with the time-honored rituals of civil disobedience" (Are you kidding me? I had to double-check the section I was reading after seeing that sentence to make sure I hadn't accidentally stumbled upon a Maureen Dowd column). The column goes on and on. It doesn't read like news--it reads like bad poetry glorifying the anti-war movement. Today's reason why liberals suck: they criticize Fox News for being "conservative", yet they refuse to acknowledge that other, older media outlets have a liberal bias that is just as pronounced as anything on Fox News.

Churchill, a professor at the University of Colorado, wrote an article after 9/11 entitled "Some People Push Back". Among other things, Churchill compared the people who were killed in the World Trade Center attack to Nazis, calling them "little Eichmanns" in reference to Nazi technocrat Adolf Eichmann.

Academic freedom is important. But does that mean that a tenured professor has the right to say anything he wants, no matter how ridiculous? What if Churchill were a math professor who contended that 2 + 2 actually equals 5? What if Churchill were a sociology professor who claimed that Blacks were inherently inferior to Whites? Would those who defend Churchill on the grounds of "academic freedom" be so quick to come to the defense of these hypothetical professors?

It's important that our universities are places where new and innovative ideas can be freely expressed, but Churchill's remarks are disgusting, and it's even more disgusting that people gave this mongrel a standing ovation when he spoke. Today's reason why liberals suck: people like this idiot are teaching the next generation of thinkers.

Apparantly, if you're Mr. Byrd, the majority rules--unless he's in the minority, in which case the views of the minority must be respected to the point of not even allowing a VOTE on judicial nominees unless the Democrats approve. And Robert Byrd's not the only Democrat that has changed his position on filibusters since Bush has been elected and the senate has gone Republican. Here are some quotes from other Democratic senators on CLINTON'S judicial nominees:

Tom Daschle (D-SD): "I find it simply baffling that a Senator would vote against even voting on a judicial nomination."

Edward Kennedy (D-MA): "If our ... colleagues don't like them, vote against them. But give them a vote."

Patrick Leahy (D-VT): "I have stated over and over again ... that I would object and fight against any filibuster on a judge, whether it is somebody I opposed or supported."

Joseph Lieberman (D-CT): The filibuster "has unfortunately become a commonplace tactic to thwart the will of the majority."

Today's reason why liberals suck: their obstructionist tactics in the senate and unwillingness to allow Bush's judicial nominees to even come up for a vote. Mr. Byrd, Mr. Kennedy, Mr. Leahy, and Mr. Lieberman: it's time to live up to your words and stop the hypocrisy.
